Inspection & Testing of an Electrical Installation

This short course is designed for Electricians, in particular Electricians involved in inspection and testing of electrical installations. This course is designed to comply with “The IET Wiring Regulations (UK) 18th Edition BS 7671:2018.”

PRE-COURSE REQUIREMENT & TARGET GROUP

Suitable for electrical technicians within the age group 18 years and above who require up skilling. OND/HND holders and Engineering graduates requiring technical knowledge within the electrical trade.

COURSE CONTENT/TOPIC

  • Safely carry out all necessary inspections and tests associated with an electrical installation and in accordance with The IET wiring Regulations 18TH Edition BS 7671:2018; such as, continuity of ring final circuit conductors, insulation resistance test between windings and frame, testing a centrifugal switch, polarity etc.

  • Safe isolation of electrical supplies

  • Kewtech Kewprove 3 (Proving Unit Details)

  • Kewtech Kt35 digital insulation/continuity tester details

  • Reversing a three phase induction motor

  • Testing a single phase induction motor 

  • Schedule of test result

MODE OF DELIVERY

  1. Each trainee will be issued with a comprehensive training manual, as well as, hand tools and power tools required to do all practical tasks.

  2. Classroom Presentation - using PowerPoint and Visual Aids.

  3. Practical hands on Sessions.

  4. Use of audio/videos to demonstrate current industry practices.

  5. Discussion and feedback from participants during each topic forms an important element of the learning process.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

On successful completion of this course each trainee will have a comprehensive understanding of the following:

  1. Understand why an installation requires inspection and testing.

  2. Identify the correct test instruments to use and how to use them.

  3. Perform a visual inspection.

  4. Perform all the tests required by The IET Wiring Regulations 18TH Edition BS 7671:2018

  5. Identify hazards involved in testing.

ASSESSMENT

This course is assessed through a multiple-choice examination, as well as a competency based practical examination.

CERTIFICATE

On successful completion of this course, learners will receive a certificate awarded by Etiwa Tech.
