Setting Out of a Building

This course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the process of setting out a building foundation for masonry structures. Participants will learn how to identify and select appropriate materials, tools, and equipment required for setting out a building foundation, and how to interpret architectural drawings

PRE-COURSE REQUIREMENTS & TARGET GROUP

Ideal for practicing masons or those who are employed in the trade and require upskilling on their knowledge, demonstrating an understanding of basic masonry works

The course is 2 weeks, Monday – Friday: (8:00am – 5:00pm)

MODE OF DELIVERY

  • Each trainee will be issued with hand tools and power tool required to do all practical tasks

  • Classroom Presentation - using PowerPoint and visual aids

  • Equipment samples and practical hands on sessions

  • Discussion and Feedback from the participants during each topic forms an important element of the learning process

  • Apply Health and safety procedures and be aware of the dangers when working on site

  • Define setting out and its importance in the construction of masonry structures

  • Identify and select appropriate materials, tools, and equipment required for setting out a building foundation

  • Understand various methods of setting out, including traditional methods and modern technologies

  • Interpret simple architectural drawings and apply this knowledge to setting out a building foundation

  • Perform setting out for the excavation of a building foundation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established building codes and regulations

  • Traditional methods of setting out, including the use of batter boards, profiles, and string lines

  • Modern technologies used in setting out, including the use of GPS and laser levels

ASSESSMENT

  • Assessment will be conducted through a combination of practical and theoretical assessments
