Wall Rendering & Finishes

This course will provide learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to work safely on site, and competently render and finish masonry walls.

PRE-COURSE REQUIREMENTS & TARGET GROUP

Trainees within age group 18 years and above that possesses a minimum of 4 credits (including mathematics, English) at SSCE level. Suitable for people employed in the rendering trade and who require up-skilling.

COURSE DURATION

The course is 2 weeks, consisting of 20 hours of classroom sessions and 60 hours of practical sessions., Monday – Friday: (8:00am – 5:00pm)

MODE OF DELIVERY

  • Each trainee will be issued with hand tools and power tool required to do all practical tasks

  • Classroom Presentation - using PowerPoint and visual aids

  • Equipment samples and practical hands on sessions

  • Audio/video techniques for current industry practices

  • One-to-one instruction and team-building exercises in groups

  • Discussion and Feedback from the participants during each topic forms an important element of the learning process

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Understand the importance of health and safety and be aware of the dangers of working on site

  • Familiarize themselves and work with all the hand tools associated with plastering

  • Confidently read a metric measuring tape and use spirit levels to find the vertical and horizontal planes

  • Understand ratios and accurately mix the components to make a suitable plastering mix

  • Competently apply a scud coat, a scratch coat, and a finish coat to a high standard

  • Create reveals, bands, bell casts, plinths, and ashlar finishes

  • Know how to do all the aftercare work to ensure rendering cures properly

COURSE CONTENT

  • Understand how to work safely on site

  • Identify and work with hand tools associated with plastering

  • Mix ratios, preparing walls and surfaces for rendering

  • Competently apply a scud coat, a scratch coat, and a finish coat to a high standard

  • Create reveals, bands, bell casts, plinths, and ashlar finishes

  • Know how to do all the aftercare work required to ensure proper curing of the rendering work

ASSESSMENT

  • Learners will be assessed through a combination of written and practical assessments
